Beluga review

Beluga manchester photoBeluga sits next to One Central Street, just off the main drag of Peter Street and behind the central library. Upstairs is a bar area, whilst downstairs is home to a restaurant. Bar prices, average. D?cor, average. This place comes into its own during the summer when you can sit out on the pavement and enjoy the sun.

What a shame - used to be a fabulous lunchtime venue. Went today, had a fish finger sandwich on ciabatta and Beluga chips - sandwich was uninteresting and tasteless - I guess they weren't even "Bird's Eye" and the chips were sparse and almost burnt! All in all a very disappointing visit. They even tried to add 10% service charge because there were 6 of us Umm don't think we'll be revisiting this establishment again.

recently visited after theatre trip.Iordered lamb shank for main course, warm on the outside, cold on the inside, couldnt complain because 1 watress was covering the whole resteraunt(6pm,Wednesday)and she never came back to enquire about the enjoyment of our food.Ordered wine just opened bottle and walked off, damp mould on wall behind my table,i could go on.There is no customer service, the food was obviously all microwaved and the whole experience spoiled our day.The waitress,or is she one of the owners??was trying to do everything and if this is a sign of things to come ,the resteraunt will struggle. The worst meal i have had in a long time

Went to Beluga yesterday, with my partner, baby son and stepdaughters, and received quite simply the most digusting service I have ever had.

We telephoned and booked a table thinking it would be busy on a Sunday when Manchester was very busy with the Christmas markets. We were told that there would only be the Christmas menu available. On arrival at 1.30pm, the restaurant/bar was almost empty (not a good sign). We were then told that only the general menu was available and that we had been misinformed as the Christmas menu has to be booked at least a week in advance and with a 10 deposit. We were later told that the Christmas menu had been available all along and we could have ate from this.

Our major problem was the service we received from the waitress who had clearly got the wrong idea regarding the menu (slim, young European lady with blonde hair - German? Dutch? Scandinavian? I'm not sure). As well as the initial confusion, she completely forgot about a drinks order which we had to place again with a more friendly, helpful waitress later after a 15 minute wait and then did not bring us the dessert/coffee menu which we were told would be a minute. We decided enough was enough and asked for the bill.

Overall, the food was very bland, boring and rather poor.
Cheap tasting sauces and gravy. Attempted nouveau cuisine-style but way off the mark!

Now for the really bad bit.... on exit, we decided we had to say something to the manager. My partner therefore told him that we were unhappy with the service and explained why. While he listened attentively, the waitress in question came over and interjected asking 'what's wrong?' and trying to defend herself. She said that we should have realised that there had been only two serving the whole restaurant. Believe me, when we entered the place, there were only two other tables occupied (maybe we have slightly differing ideas about work ethic!). Then she made out that we were out of order for complaining saying (and I believe lying) that other customers had complained about our baby son who had been crying for a short amount of time because ( babies do!) he was tired and has not been too well recently. She said "we had complaints about your baby crying and being noisy but we didn't come and complain to you did we?!"

Shock horror! That was enough for us. Not only was the service deplorable but we were now being insulted and having our baby son insulted in the process by a defensive, pathetic liar who must be up for the nomination of 'worst waitress of the year award'!

In their defense, the manager to whom we complained seemed to handle the matter well and told he was "biting his tongue" and would "discipline her" after we left.

All in all, this has to be the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant in my life... bar none.
