Housed in a stunning building just opposite the main student union, Kro Bar was originally called the 'Okasional Cafe', a venue run by gentle squatters who left the building in a bit of a state. Two Danes purchased it and 'Kro' (Danish for 'Public House in an Inn') was born. Providing a mix between a post-gig bar and afternoon hangout, there's some good food and drink on offer as well as the odd club night, although there is no late license as yet.

The building consists of the main bar situated at the front, a relaxing backroom with long wooden benches and two rooms upstairs, altogether around three hundred people can squeeze through the doors. The decor is quite plain with the odd historical artefact hung on the wall, yet it seems to fit the bill perfectly - there is no multimillion pound interior in Kro, yet just sitting and relaxing you realise that this is how minimalist should be done.

The prices are average - they've obviously made sure that their prime market (students) can afford to drink here. Bar service can be slow at times, and somewhat patchy, however the quality of the food and pastries is high. A good selection of 'non-standard' drinks are stocked.

Overall Kro is an excellent stop off before something more exciting. They are trying to bring in promoters and put some decent events on (the daytime barbecues are supposed to be very busy) but the crippling factor is the 11pm close.
