AgreeDisagreeAnonymous says... it's a hotel bar. but it thinks it's more. or, at least, certainly the staff do. bless them. 3 people agree, 3 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeAnonymous says... Really great place to go. 2 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreePaul, Manchester says... bad service ! waiting over 20 minutes for a drink!! and 10 minutes afterwards! pricey too!! health and safety issues with spilt drinks and glass on the floor etc... Stairs on the way in were slippy with drink spilt on them, not very practical to have no carpet, I wouldn't like to slip down them you would have a serious accident no doubt. Won't be going back there but liked the decore but nothing too special about it and the food was ok but still not value for money and the chairs are too low, almost like sitting in a bean bag, chin level with the table. 2 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeAnonymous says... Went in Feb 08 for a mates 30th birthday. Party of 20 on a Saturday early evening. Fabulous cocktails - pornstar martini's highly recommended. Food was superb also. Night was nearly spoiled by one up his own arse member of staff who rudely asked us to be quiet for singing happy birthday (after a member of staff brought out a cake with candle in).
So, all in all good, just one fool. 3 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeAnonymous says... I had a fantastic night down in obsidian with some friends, and it was amazing. Great decor, awesome DJ and incredible cocktails.
In reply to debs comment though on getting thrown out of obsidian, I think I was down there on the night in question and it has to be said when you are that drunk and rude no wonder you got thrown out. I think the doorman was well within his rights to do so.
And on speaking to the doorman afterwards I can reassuringly say he is no 'oaf' what so ever.
Top night there would recommend to anyone, 2 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeAnonymous says... great place, great decor. not 2 keen on restaurant- the presence of the bar is simply 2 overwhelming 2 hav a nice meal next to.
however, the bar itself is str8 out of the top drawer. apart from sum idiot bouncers, the staff r frendly and kno how 2 make a gud cocktail. gr8 2 go in feelin all sophistic8d and then stumbl on out ready for the clubs!!!
gr8 place 2 start a nyt. wud definitely reccomend. 3 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeDeb says... My boyfriend and I visited Obsidian as we were staying in the Arora Hotel. The bar staff seemed friendly enough. We went and sat down, although unbeknowing to us in the "wrong place", 2 seconds later a foreign waitress came over and told us quite sharply we couldn't sit there. We simply asked why as other people were sitting in that area, at which she started shouting and waving her arms telling us to move right away. We got up and moved to a different area. We then had a "Doorman" come over to us who told my boyriend he had moved a chair and it wasn't acceptable (not that he had - there were several other people in the area who could confirm that!) He then threw him out! A lovely end to a night out!! The door man was definately a brain dead oaf with no personal skills at all! Quite an obscure yet slightly amusing end to a night out! 2 people agree, 3 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeElizabeth Hardy says... I used to really enjoy going to Obsidian. The staff were friendly, it was a relaxed atmosphere, it felt like a safe place to be. However, I have noticed a change in the doorstaff lately and this seems to have an effect on the place. The old doorstaff were very friendly and always make you feel welcome and important to the club. They would open the doors for you and even walk you out under a brolly to your taxi if it was raining! Not to mention the times they have flagged down black cabs for me. The young man with the scar was particulary helpfull (and quite cute!). Now however, I have noted many times, the current doorstaff are not on the front door monitoring who gets into the venue. Many times lately there has been people in there who you would not associate with the bar. Young lads in tracksuit pants and ragged looking trainers. Sat being loud and rowdy. Only 2 weeks ago I was out with my partner and when he went to the toilet, some young scruffy looking fellow tried to chat me up. When I turned down his advances, I was called a "fu**ing lesbian!. My partner tried to tell the doorman who was downstairs but he couldnt speak English! I think he is Polish? Asking for the manager, I was told he had "finished" (at 12:45?). "I dont feel safe in a club which has no regulation as to who comes through the doors, and considering we pay extra for our drinks here to have that exclusive feel to the bar, I feel Livingroom on Deansgate would be a better option. Too many times clubs do not realise that the first point of call is the doorstaff and as such should be paid special attention to.
Very dissapointed. Bring back the old staff. 8 people agree, 2 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeObsidian says... Eh?
Obsidian I have to say used to be a fab place to get great pre-dinner drinks but lately it seems to have turned into some strange school disco, clipboard girl at the door commercial venue with cheap flashing lights. Went last week, not impresed by lack of attentiveness by staff and absence of any manager at all to ask about a table.
Steer clear. 7 people agree, 9 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagreeGem says... Obsidian really is a hidden gem. The place has got style but without the pretentiousness of many Manchester bars. The restaurant is serving the best food in town so get down there before the it crowd ruin it! 10 people agree, 7 people disagree with this review AgreeDisagree |
