Trof,ManchesterTrof
2a Landcross Road
Cheap and Cheerful bar

Trof sits in a side street that's slap bang in the middle of the Fallowfield student district. Streets lined with terrace houses are home to the future academics of the world, and the nearby Owens Park student halls provide hundreds (nay, thousands) of mouths that need feeding. Despite this large catchment market, Trof hasn't gone the pile-it-high-sell-it-cheap route, and instead serves up high-end grub at mid-end prices (with massive portions!). Inside the place is a little on the cramped/small side, but this just adds to the character of the place. The breakfasts are lovingly prepared, and washed down with a mellow coffee are the perfect pick-me-up. The lunches and dinners are rare in this area - quality foods, with enough flare to warrant prices much higher than quoted. Well served, well cooked, and well tasty. Upstairs is a second bar area with a major faux pas - the DJ is sitting down! Never mind, we'll forgive them this one tiny error, and we're guessing that the jockey that night had tired legs.

Snook,ManchesterSnook
317 Wilmslow Road
Style Conscious bar

Home to the Romp pre party (every Thursday) Snook sits on the former site of Something Blue in Fallowfield, which itself was a bastion of good taste along the alco-pop strip.

The Queen Of Hearts,ManchesterThe Queen Of Hearts
256 Wilmslow Road
Cheap and Cheerful bar

The recent openings, and refurbishments, of many of the pubs and bars in Fallowfield have meant that everywhere is looking decent at the moment. Nice shiny tables, chairs that balance - it's all pretty crisp. So for those that long for a drinking hole that is a little less polished, The Queen Of Hearts (and the neighbouring Cheshire Cat) are perfect. Cheap booze and cheesy music is the order of the day, and this venue has provided both for as long as we can remember.

Sofa,ManchesterSofa
236 Wilmslow Road
Indie and Underground bar

Situated on the busy Wilmslow Road, opposite the student halls, Sofa has undergone a number of refits recently, but at the core it remains the same. A laid back, well priced bar that often features DJs and provides pre-parties for other clubs in the centre of Manchester. Sofa has been around for as long as we care to remember, and it's still a good enough place to hang out in Fallowfield. With the recently refurbished Glass, and the ever popular Revolution, the competition is tough and Sofa but the bar's popularity is down to the fact that it's a bit rough around the edges.

Revolution Fallowfield,ManchesterRevolution Fallowfield
311-313 Wilmslow Road
Indie and Underground bar

Some say that Fallowfield nightlife revolves around Revolution - those people are liars, but the vodka bar does have a huge impact on going out and provided some much needed class and sophistication before other venues caught on to the trend. Situated on the ever-busy Wilmslow Road this is standard Revolution fare, with cheap vodkas, wine, food and a bar big enough for a few hundred. The trick, for this venue at least, is to put on some great independent events on during the week - so far this has worked incredibly well, and the introduction of 'deejays' hasn’t encroached too much on those that just want a quiet drink. During quieter times it's a great place to hang out, unwind and eat some food. The menus are decent enough and the quality is good.

Glass
258 Wilmslow Road
Modern bar

Glass is a Fallowfield institution, and after undergoing a substantial refit, the three floored venue has become hugely popular again. There's nothing particularly outstanding about Glass (which, by the way, consists mostly of Glass and steel) but the combination of decent looking décor, well designed internals and cheap drinks seems to make everyone happy. The outside balcony is perhaps its best feature, and often overlooked by those visiting the area, as you can sit and watch the busy junction as you sip your drinks. Now firmly entrenched in the 'pre club' drinking minds of everyone in the area, its well worth a visit. A number of smaller club nights take place here and are equally worthy of your support.

The Great Central
Wilmslow Road
Quiet and Old bar

Fallowfield's new JD Wetherspoons means that it's even cheaper to eat and drink. The Great Central is an atypical offshoot of Lloyds No.1 Bar, so the decor is modern and there's even some trendy lighting and a nice looking bar. Drinks are ultra cheap and the food - whilst not exactly Michelin star quality - fills a hole.
