The DeansgateManchester

Bar type: Quiet and Old

The Deansgate review

Previously known as the Crown Inn and Galvin's Irish Bar, Galvins Bar sits uncomfortable at the bottom of Deansgate in the shadow of the Beetham Tower, and sandwiched in between Deansgate Locks and the city centre. Nethertheless, like a bastion of olde worlde values, you can grab a very cheap (true) pint server by a buxom wench (untrue) after you've spent a billion pounds on an apartment the size of a shoebox (almost true) or on the way back from a big gay shopping trip.

Like many of the old school boozers in Manchester (and there are a considerable number still alive in the city centre) Galvins is to be treated with respect. No loud noises, no hard house. Take an hour pouring me a pint, then charge me literally three pence. This is the way life used to be, and Ill happily experience it for a bit.

My family and I went to the restaraunt above the bar after Christmas and we thought the food was absolutely superb. The staff upstairs were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

My mate Aron Paul, who was at the orgy with Simon, said it was a great night. At one point he was even dancing on the bar with one of the sexy bar men. you can actually see this on Aron's myspace video!

My mate Neil went in there and was upset by the barmaid that proceeded to call him Penfold (from the 80's cartoon character Dangermouse). When Neil challenged the barmaid she didnt understand his Northern colloquiallisms and ordered him a ginger toupee and then barred him. He hasn't been anywhere but The Weavers since.

i have heard that Neil Wallwork might be making an appearance there one night. i really hope so coz that yorkshire man can really throw a note out, especially his hit song "Did You Know?" he even hands out free pork pies after his session. What a nice guy. lets hope we see more of Neil Wallwork in the future, he is true talent.

Colin Byrne tried to get in, but the bouncer knew what he was up to. He told him he was too old and visually impaired to gain entry......the story continues.

Awful, I mean the building itself is lovely, they did a beautiful job on the resto but the offerings do not do it justice. Really overpriced and the food, well it's all precooked bought in garbage and not worth the money by any stretch. Nearly ?8 for a burger we were expecting at least a homemade one but no, precooked stuff. Dry on a stale bun with nothing else. They could be onto a winner here if the prices were reasonable and they had a proper food offering.
