| | About Islington Wharf | New Islington was one of the most talked about areas in 2005, as the area around Ancoats and the Ashton Canal was promised a massive makeover. Since then little has been mentioned apart from the release of apartments in Urban Splash's Chips development.
Until now that is, as Islington Wharf is announced and it all looks very exciting. Built by specialist waterside developer Isis. Funded by British Waterways and two development funds, they have embarked on an amitious serious of projects in nine towns across the UK.
The building itself is striking, with glass and conrete jutting out in an almost frightening way. Nestled inside are one and two bedroom apartments and two bedroom duplexes that come with balconies. The three bedroom apartments come with roof terraces and balconies and there are also four bedroom family homes with private gardens.
The internals look outstanding, with full height windows and designer bathrooms. The kitchens come with integrated fridge-freezers, dishwashers and hobs, with a choice of worktops and doors, with a fancy lighting system.
Outside there is a communal garden that resides on top of the car park roof, with 'private quiet corners', places to barbeuce and seating. All of this is alongside the Ashton canal in an area that shows a lot of promise.
Isis, the people behind Islington Wharf, clearly have the environment on their minds and the influence of British Waterways is clear. On top of the sensitive design, 50% of the returns from the apartment building are re-invested in the water network, which is much needed. The nearby Bridgewater canal needs as much help as it can get.
