Ibis Oxford Road review

The Ibis brand is a European import - crisp clean hotel rooms, swift service but with bargain basement prices. Their hotel on Charles Street has been open for five years now, and it's just recently had a trendy Indian restaurant open within the same block. The Ibis hotel has one hundred and twenty six rooms, and - thanks to their low rates - they're usually full so book in advance!

The rooms themselves are basic, but modern - you get a TV, tea and coffee making facilities as well as an average bathroom. The hotel has it's own twenty four hour bar/restaurant, which is compact but completely functional, and the same area serves breakfasts in the morning.

The Ibis is close to Oxford Road and the Gay Village, and the rest of Manchester City Centre just a five minute walk up Princess Street (Chinatown is particularly close as well). The hotel is right next door to Weston Hall, a university hall of residence, and very close to the UMIST campus (now the University of Manchester).

Despite the nearby students you'll find this hotel to be pretty quiet. It's not slap-bang in the middle of the city centre so it's a little bit more peaceful.

Ive stayed in this Ibis a number of times over the last five years, and as the reviewer says above this hotel is cheap and cheerful. Good location (walking distance to town) and the 24hr bar comes in handy. Rooms aren't big, and the self-contained bathroom is unnattractive but for the price it's a pretty good hotel.

The Ibis is on the corner of Princess Street and Charles Street, close to the old BBC Building. If you're travelling to Manchester by road then follow the signposts for central Manchester and then join the A57(m), heading towards Piccadilly. Turn off towards the Universities (Take the left hand lane and then take a sharp left). Follow the road to the right (the slip road off splits in to two lanes), and then make the first left on to Charles Street. The Ibis is fifty metres down the road at the Traffic Lights.
