The Macdonald hotel is brand spanking new, and it's in the former BT building next to Piccadilly station. There's a whopping 208 rooms in there, which all have climate control, free wireless internet, SKY TV and well stocked bathrooms (including a separate shower and bath). You also get the standard (and sometimes useful) trouser press, a mini bar, and there's an added extra that will appeal to a lot of visitors - an I-pod docking station.

For late night snacks there's a 24hr room service, and during 'business hours' there Macdonald hotel has an on site restaurant/bar, and if you're looking to eat (or drink) outside of the hotel but are new to the city then the concierge service will be able to help you out.

There is a lot going on around the Hotel, and whilst Piccadilly is still an 'up and coming' area, there rest of the city centre is within walking distance (about five minutes to the main shopping districts, and ten minutes to the bars and clubs of Deansgate). The Macdonalds Hotels on site restaurant and bar should cater for you, but there are plenty of interesting bars and restaurants in the nearby Northern Quarter (including such luminaries as Bluu, Socio Rehab and Odder).

With room prices from £107, the Macdonald is clearly aimed at something above the budget market. The promise of great on-site facilities, gym access and the well stocked bedrooms make this worthwhile (the nearby Malmaison hotel is set firmly in its sights).
