The Malmaison hotel in Manchester was one of the first truly original hotels within the city centre - or at least one of the only ones worth visiting. Whilst this is no longer the case - the Lowry, Great John Street Hotel and the Radisson Edwardian are just a few of the recently built hotels - it is still worthy of a visit and there are some cheap deals on hotel rooms here. The Malmaison located on a busy corner near Piccadilly train station, and just a short walk down the street to the shops and restaurants of central Manchester. Inside there's a French Brasserie that has been getting rave reviews, and well appointed public spaces and bedrooms. Whilst the Malmaison is no longer a cutting edge hotel in Manchester, it is certainly a good deal.

Went to a Company function on 04/12/09. Never felt so ripped off in my life. Food; average, not 4 Star. Drinks, ridiculously overpriced: 2 large brandy and cola's; £22.80p. I stayed for two rounds, my mates and then mine, then it was off to the Waldorf. Nobody from the Company that I work for will ever go near that place again. To add insult to injury, we weren't allowed to mix with hotel guest, they set up a poxy table in a corrider and we had to use that, with no proper seating. Mal Maison, French eh? Well when I went to school Mal is French for bad, and Maison is house= Badhouse; Never a truer word spoken.

I have stayed in Malmaison leeds and the service was horrible. The bar manager was very rude and so was the staff on the reception. I was on business then at the manchester malmaison and they was great a lil slow on the room service. but a lot better service.

Stayed in Malmaison last week and all was going well (Room was ultra clean, friendly welcome and help with booking taxis) until breakfast didnt arrive! Im sure the people at Mal know the importance of the 'farewell' being just as important as the welcome but no-one seemed to take any notice on this occation. 9:10am "Ooh, we're very busy Mr Smith" 9:20am "He's on his way up to you now Mr Smith" 9:30am "He's just been up, are you sure you didnt hear him knocking?" "He" would have to had knocked through me, I was standing like a lemon out side the room as you just said he was on his way! "Oh well Mr Smith, that'll be ? plus ? for your breakfast and 2 quid for the orange juice from the mini bar"

F.Y.I Greggs is just around the corner.

Dont bother with the Malmaison, for a little bit more you can stay at the Manchester Hilton and the server there is far far above the Mal. The staff at the Mal are rude and obnoxious, with no regard for customer satisfaction, nothing like the Malmaison was a few years ago. Avoid, and spend your money elsewhere (better).

A good choice, but the Malmaison is being eclipsed by the Hilton and Radisson - still a great place to have a steak though!

I love the malmaison and not just for the rooms. I stay here once a month and I look forward to the restaurant downstairs, which servers simple and relatively cheap food. The standard of service in the hotel is good, it's not quite five star but it's still on par with the other Malmaisons in the country (I have stayed at many).

Forget about the Lowry or Radisson, the Mal is where its at! Stayed at the Newcastle and Birmingham ones as well and the food is good. Not for the faint hearted (the bills!), I won't stay anywhere but the Malmaison when I'm in Manchester and that includes the new Hilton.

The Malmaison is an architectural landmark combining old and new to best effect. Slap, bang in the middle of Manchester city centre, minutes from Piccadilly Station and within easy reach from Manchester International Airport. To find the Malmaison head for Piccadilly Station (City Centre Manchester), the Malmaison Manchester is located opposite the station approach, on Piccadilly.
