The Princess on Portland (Formerly known as the Princess Hotel) is situated on the busy intersection of Princess Street and Portland Street, on the edge of the Gay Village and located close to Chinatown. The hotel is a conversion of a former mill building, and whilst it looks a little bland from the outside the rooms are good enough for those on a budget. Inside a relatively quiet bar serves drinks to hotel guests, whilst a dining room caters at breakfast time, and serves evening meals ('The Brasserie On Portland')(ave rating)This hotel is rated 3* (awarded by AA)

The hotel has undergone a recent refit, and it looks a lot better but this isn't a smart boutique hotel, nor is it five star luxury. There are cheap hotel room deals that make it worth visiting, and if you're planning to go out in the Gay Village, or any of the restaurants, bars or clubs on the nearby Princess Street or Oxford Road then this is well worth staying at. Manchester's Chinatown (and the rest of the City Centre) is just a few minutes walk away.

It was just five minutes walk to Manchester centre, and (for the price) the service was excellent. From the receptionist to the barman! We're coming to Manchester again next year and we'll be staying at the Princess.
Anonymous says...Not bad for the price. If your going out in the gay village then I think the Princess is the closest hotel. Bar inside isnt up to much though so head down to the Village where there's about fifty.
The Princess on Portland hotel is located on Princess Street within Manchester city centre. On the corner of Princess St / Portland St, from Piccadilly to Piccadilly Gardens, left onto Portland St, hotel 100m on left. There is reduced rate car parking at the nearby NCP, and on street parking close to the hotel. There are additional car parks within walking distance, and the Princess hotel is only a few minutes walk from the city centre, and it has plenty of restaurants and entertainment nearby.
