23 stories above the ground, the new Hilton Skybar looks stunning, and offers amazing views.

With a spate of recent bar and club openings in the City it's been easy to overlook the Hilton Skybar. Perhaps in this world of intense advertising and pushy PR this is what they intended. Nethertheless, the bar opens for business tonight (Tuesday 10th October) and this weekend will be the first 'test' for the watering hole that exists 23 stories above the ground.

So what's it like inside? Well the bar has been designed by the Gorgeous Group who have worked their magic on bars in London, namely the Dorchester Hotel, Zeta Bar and Hakkasan. They're also credited as bringing the first Bourbon bar to the UK - an impressive list of clients, but the proof of the pudding is always in the eating and their work on Cloud 23 has certainly won our approval.

Gone is the inevitable combination of glass, chrome and tiled flooring - muted greys and reds are in, as is comfortable seating and good service. The place looks great, the views are unbelievable and the inclusion of glass 'peep holes' that allow you to look down on the streets below are a welcome fad.

One problem that they have is transport - how do you get the crowds up to the 23rd floor? Easy, install an ear-popping lift that will get you from the ground floor to the bar in 15 seconds. Entrance is through the main Hotel lobby and we're promised that punters will be greeted with a warm smile.

Food and drink will be served, with an array of cocktails and champagnes.

In their words: "The winning combination of cool ambience, cutting edge design, a diverse drinks menu and exceptional views is sure to make Cloud 23 the ultimate destination bar, redefining the cocktail scene in Manchester."

With the Hilton name behind it, the amazing views and the fact that this is the only Skybar that we can claim to have, we tend to agree that this will be a success. Only time will tell if this bar is accepting of the 'regular' bar goers like you and me.

great for a couple of drinks, best getting there for early doors then onto elsewhere later, too pricey to stay longer and you'd also get quite bored, not the greatest of atmospheres but views are stunning and well worth a peak!

Had a table booked last night at cloud 23 along with a bottle of bubbly fo the wife's birthday unfortunately for some reason the booking was not on the list when we walked past nearly 60 people to get to the front of the queue. The girl on the door sent for the manager while we sat to one side feeling a little annoyed and embarrassed to say the least. however all was not lost the manager who was called Stuart was excellent not only did he take us up and find us a table immediately he gave us a bottle of champers on the house. He could have quite easily have turned us away but instead showed his true class and made it an evening to remember for my wife. Many Thanks

Went on the Saturday night 21 April 2007 around 11:30pm. The queue was long but that wasnt a problem because we booked a table in advance. You do need to give your credit card info when booking a table and they will charge ?5 if you fail to show. This is not a problem if you are sure on the visit. We walked straight to the front and within minutes were travelling up to the bar. It was busy but our table was ready as soon as we stepped in. The view was amazing and it helped that the weather for the weekend was great. The drinks were expensive but for such a high class bar and for the atmosphere, it wasnt too bad at all. We spent almost three hours at the top and ordering/reordering drinks wasnt a problem. The drinks were good too, wide selection and really well made. I think the thing that made the night really stand out for me was the level of service. Fantastic all the way through and it helped with the clipboard lady at the front of the bar being so hot. She was the girl who had a bob haircut, dark brown/black hair wearing peep toe shoes. She was slim and she was so hot. She kept showing people to their tables all night long and I couldn't take my eyes off her. Shame I live so far away otherwise I would visit regularly just for her. Highly recommended.

How about trying to reserve an area of Cloud 23 to have cocktails with a few close friends before celebrating your birthday in several months time? I tried and guess what? I was offered the 'East Lounge' of Cloud 23 for 4 hours at a cost of ?1500.00, yes, ?1500.00! That's more that it's costing for the main city centre birthday venue, exclusive to us and including food! We only wanted to be there for a couple of hours, but from reading previous comments, perhaps it takes double the time to get served. That's ?375.00 per hour just to be in there! And that's before you buy a cocktail. There'll be no 'Ena Sparkles' cocktails for us, we'll take our business elsewhere.

Cloud 23 is truly one of the best bars I have been in, in a long time, I took the liberty of making a resrevation for the Saturday night as with it being so new I thought it would be impossible to get in. Ok so I had to make te reservation 2 weeks in advance but what do you expect from the hottest bar in Manchester. So I approached the lift reservations number hot in my hand and was taken up in the super speedy lift to be greeted, seated and served the most amazing variety of cocktails I have ever tasted, truly magnificent. Here's the moral of the storey if you don't want to queue make a reservation, there's no point in complaining when it's brand new!!!

My wife and I thought we would try Cloud 23 last Friday lunchtime and so travelled on the train then tram from Stockport only to find the bar does not open until 5pm! maybe if they opened earlier people would not have to queue for the lift for hours!

I think cloud 23 is over rated ....... I mean it took over 20 mins to get served and when we had finished we had to wait a further 10 mins to get served so we decided to get the bill the drinks came to ?15 I gave the waitress ?20 and she never came back with the change she just took it upon her self to pocket my change!

Well reading the comments on here I am to say the least a little shocked and disappointed but the proof is in the pudding ( I so hope my dream buildings bar is not going to be a pudding )I have been taking pictures off this fantastic building since it was knee high to a grass hopper...and still have them all and enjoy showing my friends when they were saying what's all the fuss about....well your building now proves the fuss was well worth shouting about...I am looking so forward to visiting the bar and so hope that all the hype RUBBISH is just hype, I work on the airlines so visit bars all around the world as now so hoping I had a bar to impress all on my door step and that me and my friends could visit it like I do the FANTASTIC bars I visit around the world without all this (HYPE) hassle I hear about.... love to hear from you and your comments

Living just around the corner from Cloud 23 I thought this was going to be my new local...... but sod that!!! It has been open now for 4 weeks and I have still not been able to get up to the bar to have an overpriced drink because the long queues for the apparently empty bar is always too long. The wonderful door policy from some power hungry pen-pushers is so confusing.... 15 out of the lift, 2 in it!!?? Queuing in a hotel lobby for ages is not my idea of a good time. I have eaten at the excellent Podium restaurant a few times and I would recommend that if you want to go to the Hilton for a drink and a good time. Forget the 'new tourist attraction' and go to Podium!!!

as i will be leaving manchester for good this week, i decided that i really wanted to see the new beethom tower before i left, with a few friends we went to see the new cloud 23 bar, as a designer and someone who appreciates fine architecture it seemed like the ideal place, but not since i was 16 and trying to get in to bar in dublin has a bouncer and hostess looked at me and me feel so small.

the bouncer greeted myself and my friends all design prefessionals in our late 20's, with the kind attitude you might have towards a crack head clutching at your feet for some spare change to get his next fix.

this is the case of another one of those bars in manchester which thinks it is only for the protentious c*cknoses that just want to be seen instead of actually having a good night out.

i recomend being extremely rude to the staff as they will treat you the same anyway, as they can only feel so angry at the fact that they are all on the minimum wage and the only satisfaction they have in life is deciding if they should be so kind as to let you in a bar.

go up the lift have a look at the view, which unfortunetly does not look over the city center, then get the lift back down and go to the pub.

what a pretentious load of rubbish! we were made to q outside to make the bouncer feel more important and after finally making it to the lift were only allowed up two at a time [the lift held 15 people minimum]again, so that the 'bouncer' got his power trip.this bar is majorly contrived in every sense of the word and i can just tell it will soon be filled up with the kind of wanabees which will make it a miserable and competitive environment rather than a fantasticly different place to spend an evening. when will manchester learn that exclusivity can be acheived with pure quality of environment and service and without all the visual discrimination and egos of a few who think they are a cut above the rest.

Very disappointing. We got here early on Friday night. There were only 6 people in front of us yet we still had to queue up for 10 minutes outside the building before being let in and queuing for another 15 minutes on the 'red carpet'outside the lift.
When we finally got up to the 23rd floor, we were allocated to a 'standing' table. It took 10 minutes before someone came and took our drinks order and another 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. When we were finally seated, the chairs were uncomfortable and the service remained terrible. To top it off, we couldn't pay the bill at the table because the payment console did not have reception on that side of the bar.
Because of the table service only policy, the place has no atmosphere.
Not what you expect when you're paying a premium.
Stick to Pannacea or Cocoa Rooms.

After failing yet another driving test i decided i couldn't take anymore so as i wandered across Manchester shuffling my feet and muttering angry gibberish looking for a tall building to jump off, i found myself at the foot of Beetham tower. I pushed the button for the top floor and waited for the lift doors to close, Prematurely the door opened on Number 23 to my amazement a barrage of slick lighting and soothing music and a.......... bar!! i didn't expect to see a bar, had i already jumped and found Heaven. Realising that my head was still attached to my shoulders i figured maybe not. So i spilled out for 1 last pint just before the fateful end. Well 10 pints later 3 cocktails and another test booked for next week Cloud 23 has given me a new lease of life!! Cloud 23 not just for pretentious Tw**s - But for everyone!! Better views than the Manchester Wheel. Enjoy........as i did and will again.
