Ithaca: Another new bar

?3.6mill on a bar-cum-restaurant, this has got to be good. With a Greek theme this promises to blow... everyone away.

Hold it. Another new opening for Manchester?

This whopping 8,000 square foot venue is on track to open in December 2006,
and if you thought the onslaught of high-rolling, 'top end' bars was over then think again.

Ithaca is the ?3.6million bar-cum-restaurant that's pitched a camp at the end of John Dalton Street, almost in the shadow of this bar's biggest rival: Cloud 23. It would be unfair to say that the venue is gunning for the Hilton skybar, this place has a genuine intention to beat the rest of them (Sugar/Cocoa/Living room) too. Panacea, just a few steps down the street, is shaking in it's breezeblocks.

Ithaca, run in part by the boss of Altrincham's trendy-ish Oddysey bar, is going to be Greek themed with the promise of a huge 'King Arthur' style round table for the ultimate fine dining experience. The finished bar is expected to consist of three areas: Ithaca, Ikarus and Solaris. Quite what each one does we're not sure, but at a guess we'd say: Bar, Restaurant, VIP and not necessarily in that order.

Food wise Ithaca will be serving from a pan Asian menu. Interesting? Non. Especially weird for a Greek themed bar. Maybe it'll work, and from what we've heard the chefs aren't going to be average joes. As owner Arnie Hira put's it: "There isn't anything like what we're doing in England, never mind Manchester. It's going to be totally out of this world".

The opening date for Ithaca is well over a month away so when we know more, you'll know more.

Your comments on Ithaca: Another new bar

I have been privilege to a sneak view of Ithaca and think it is a breath of fresh air for Manchester and will put the other dried out boring bars (mention no names) to shame.
Lets hope the wait has been worth while.

alot of people are quick to dismiss any new venture in manchester because people love failure!!!! but when a venture succeeds then the same people that have slated the venue are the first in the Q to get in????????
These people are idiots... good luck Ithaca.
