Manchester![]() Paradise Closing WeekendWin tickets to the final two parties at the Paradise, Gilles Peterson, The Unabombers and more. related links: paradise factory Authorpercy There?s a building in Manchester city centre that carries with it much more history and meaning than its plain brick exterior might suggest. Behind the walls of 112-116 Princess Street lie many memories from iconic times past. The building was first renovated by Factory Records to be used as their HQ in the Hacienda/Madchester heydays and was bought, once Factory had closed down, by the first pioneers of the city?s Gay Village, who transformed it into Paradise Factory, at one point the most popular gay club in the country. Paradise Factory ran for over a decade, closing in 2004, and the club re-opened in January of this year. Under the new guise of ?112-116 Princess Street? (known to many still as ?Paradise?) it promised to be one of the best house/techno clubs in the country. Sadly, after just 20 weekends of hedonistic club nights, 112-116 is closing its doors and it?s looking like the space may never play host to a mass of sweating ravers ever again. To mark the occasion, the good people at 112-116 are putting on three special nights that promise to be amongst the biggest of the year. Starting on Wednesday 3 June with drum and bass master High Contrast and the ever popular Scratch Perverts the celebrations continue into the weekend with a feast of techno from Boys Noize and Brodinski on Friday 6th June. The final party on the Saturday night is headlined by Gilles Peterson, of Radio One fame, and then, sadly, the doors on this iconic venue will be closed for the final time.
