Pure to launch

New club *yawn*. ?2.5million spent *yawn*. Funktion 1 sound sytem? Now you're talking?.

Oi Oi, a new ?dance? club is opening in Manchester! A bank busting ?2.5million has been spent on Pure (Printworks) by a team that is credited as owning London?s Heaven, and putting on a load of raves back in the 90s. What caught our eye was the installation of a decent Funktion1 sound system ? considered to be the second best brand name you can have on your speakers (The Phazon, is surely number one). Why does this make any difference whatsoever? Well it certainly shows an understanding of what?s important ? and so often the sound system in a club is an afterthought. Let?s hope they back this up with some decent DJs.

Whilst we?re still waiting for line-ups and all the juicy gossip on who will be playing where, but we can reveal that the two flagship Friday and Saturday night events (Pure respectively) will be starting on the 30th June and 1st July. Hed Kandi will be at Sessions which appears to be the official launch party for the club.
A new midweek night called Popcorn is pencilled in for when the students get back in September.

A venue inside a venue, Pure Magic Bar will sit inside Pure, and it?s going to be a bar based around magic. Judging by the images we?ve seen it doesn?t look particularly impressive, but no doubt there?s some budding Paul Daniels out there who want to make their liver disappear (by becoming an alcoholic).

Meanwhile, have a look at the very generic photographs that have been released by Pure. They don?t seem to relate to the club itself, and we don?t know who that girl is, but they sure are pretty.

Your comments on Pure to launch

Went to Salvation there. Soundsystem is very impressive but the oppressive security killed the fun. Sorry wrong location and wrong attitude to attract real clubbers.

I used to go to lucid which was what used to be there before pure and that was amazing and thought it couldn't get any better but I went to see how it was, and it has better security, music, bigger dance floor, this is a quality club and cant wait to go this st again. The only thing I would say is bad in their is the price of drinks but rather than that its fab!! get me a membership!! gaz from stockport

I've been clubbing since 1989. I've been there, done it and got the Tee shirts. From Entropy and Shelly's in Stoke, to Legends, Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen and Cream, there isn't a night I haven't been too in the last 17 years. but Friday in Pure was PURE sh*te! what a fcukin disaster of a club! No atmosphere, the people there weren't there for Hed Kandi's fantastic music, there were just there because it was close. No bar space, the DJ was tucked away in the corner in a glass box, where I saw him eating sandwiches. Not like gatecrasher where they are in your face and winding the crowd up. And as for the sound system? my car sounds better, the acoustics in there are crap. I'll never go again, what a waste of 10 quid, I'd rather have a leg off......

Hi all, just a line about this weekend's launch party.

We've had a pretty big response in regards to tickets and passes over the last few days, and it's looking like we're going to have a pretty damn big crowd over the weekend, so we just thought we'd give you a heads up and suggest that maybe a few of you consider next week.

Obviously we'd love to see you, and we don't want to talk anyone out of coming down, but given the state of things you might find it easier next weekend. The guest list filled out on Tuesday, so things really are a bit crazy at the min, and given the fact that we've had quite a few people asking for guest passes over the last couple of days, we thought we'd better keep you informed on the situation. Hopefully next weekend we should have a few more passes available to reward you for your patience, and if you want to call us at the Padcom office (0845 458 8662) next week we'll be able to give you a bigger update.

Anyway, whichever weekend you decide to come down, I hope you all have a great time. We're working as hard as we can to make sure it happens (Next weekend we have Manchester DJs Jimmy Bell (regular at Amsterdam's Supper club) and Danny Whitehead (Coco Loco) on Friday with DJ Bodum making a return journey north from Heaven on Saturday.), and we hope to see you in Pure as soon as you can make it.

Have fun 'til then.

Dave at Padcom

I know from an insider that Saturday is targeting the current Printworks crowd so avoid it like the plague!! However the Friday is the clubbers night so lets give it a whirl!

I don't know, I think we're being a bit unnecessarily cynical about this. Let's face it, what's preferable, going to a club, giving it a go, letting yourself have fun somewhere new, then deciding what you think about it, or sitting at home being all elitist, and GUARRANTEE that you're not going to have a good time? I hate the p*ssed-up retard crowd as much as anyone else, but we're being bloody judgemental to assume those are the only people who are going to be in a place that size BEFORE IT EVEN OPENS. There's obviously a lot of money going into it, and I doubt a big owner like the one they've got will want it to turn into a chav pit after that. I know it's in The Printworks, but Manchester's a big place, and it's a big club. Come on people, it's a big shiney new club, with the ability to open on a whole bunch of different nights, with a big fu*k off new sound system. When you look at it that uncynically, it can only be a potentially really good thing. And this whole "Let's not trust the Londoners" attitude I'm seeing a lot over the 'net is a bit stupid. Like I said, it's not even open yet. It's an open book. Let's give it a go and see what we think in real terms, rather than just theorising about it.

What a waste. Boring line-ups, and will be full of drunk Printworks crowds. This is now what clubbing should be all about (e.g. a "VVIP area")

WHAT! do you know anything about sound!
phazon? you have got to be talking the mick! you need to do some research before you make comments like that, what qualifies you to judge phazon over funktion one, are a sound engineer? do you have a history of sound engineering? or do you just believe the hype!

Whilst I welcome new clubs in Manchester, I feel spending this amount of money on a club is stupid. The funktion 1 sound system is of course amazing but why spend ?300,000.00 on a sound system then open the night with Hed Kandi. This tells me the kind of DJ's that they will be having. It's the Line-ups what make a club not the interior.
The fact that it's in the Printworks will no doubt put off most of the serious clubbers from going, however it will still be packed out with the normal Printworks crowd.
Just seems another waste of a possible good club.
With the right promoters getting the right DJ's I do think that the club COULD take off. Serious clubbers give clubs a reputation and without a good reputation then I'm afraid the club will be just packed with the same teenagers every week.
Serious thinking will get better rewards than serious money.
I Hope I'm proven wrong, but I doubt it.
