ManchesterTwitter Rules ManchesterNightlife in Manchester most effective on social networking site, according to report. A report released this week by a Manchester digital marketing agency shows that Manchester’s nightlife community are the most prolific and engaging on social networking site Twitter. The report, compiled by digital marketing agency theEword, analysed a number of accounts in the city and concluded that those in the category of Manchester’s nightlife were the most active and popular. For those of you groaning with contempt at the mere mention of ‘Twitter’, I would offer you the following information to appease your disdain: Firstly, you don’t have to get actively involved if you don’t want to – you can just read what other people are up to and this, in itself, could prove to be very useful to you. Gone are the days of a bar, club or restaurant simply existing solely on its own plot of land, containing itself within its own walls. Bars, clubs and restaurants are smart these days, as aware as ever of how you, the customers, view them, interact with them and, ultimately, what you think of them, so they’re spreading themselves out as much as they can. Twitter can give you a great insight into the feel of the place and those who work there, not to mention give you a heads up on offers, promotions and even freebies. If you go out in Manchester at all, getting involved with Twitter could be very useful to you Manchester is one of the most active cities in the country on Twitter and the report split the city’s key organisations that use it into eight categories; not for profits, nightlife, leisure services, business, retail, culture, organisations and news and media. They developed an amazingly intricate and, quite frankly, bafflingly complicated algorithm to give a score for each of the top Twitter accounts in each section, taking into account ‘engagement, popularity and involvement’. ![]() Without wishing to get into it too much, what it all basically boils down to is the most effective Twitter accounts for bars, clubs and restaurants in Manchester are those that are written with a bit of personality but also maintain an informative air – it’s all very well knowing what someone had for breakfast or what colour pants they’re wearing, but people also want to know what beer offers a bar has got on, or what night pizzas are two for one. The report lists the top nightlife Twitter accounts in Manchester as: Clique Manchester - @cliqueclub Base Cafe Bar - @base_cafe_bar The Didsbury - @The_Didsbury Band on the Wall - @bandonthewall There’s plenty out there, however, and Twitter is still a relatively new tool in many people’s eyes so have a look around, see if you can find your favourite bar, club or restaurant on there and start chatting with them – you never know, next time you’re out you might be glad you did.
