Romp review
Romp manchester photoOne Central is fast making a name for itself amongst the non-mainstreamers, people who crave good drinks in a sexy environment, but who consider Deansgate Locks a little passé.

Romp took over Thursday nights after a bi-weekly slot at Industry. Whilst this venue was a little too industrial for Romp, One Central fits it like a glove, with a naughty interior, excellent drinks mixologists and a decent enough sound system.

Romp has always been about having a party with a select crowd, and their door policy is bringing in a lot of like-minded people.

Musically Romp is across the board party tunes, with a smattering of electo-pop and old school new york - the sound system is more than capable of handling the beefier tracks, and the residents DJs Alix Walker and Xander are purpose built for this type of vibe.

There are drinks offers for those that have been hit hard in the pocket, but it's worthwhile spending a few pounds experimenting with the wide range of cocktails, including the delicious champagne based drinks. The bartenders here know their stuff, and are more than happy to converse with you about which cocktails are the best, and they'll no doubt knock you up something if it isn't on the menu, although it doesn’t come cheap.

Overall we love Romp, and it deservedly sits in our top five list. It's intimate and select, with a near-perfect music policy and high class liquids - what more could you seriously ask for?

Vodka and mixer is £2 before 10 so try and buy your drinks before then.

Full of U. of Manchester students which wasnt really my style. Oh and the unisex toilets were a little strange.

Place has an underground vibe with lots of good tracks. Dance floor tends to spread through the whole place.

Not for me but can see why people like it.

Big big white posters and a swan? When Romp started off I wasn't too sure. I'm quite cautious about 'the ponse' crowds, and Romp seemed to be one for attracting those types... Didn't venture down until late in the year, but, well I was quite impressed. Drinks ain't too cheap, (it's a ponse crowd Tom, what do you expect?!) but the music, I have to say was impeccable. A bit of Prince here, some bad ass 80's there, and a bit of MJ to cream off... Yes mate, well good. What surprised me even more, was the fact that a lot of 'the ponses' actually retracted their heads from their arses once the DJ whipped out the vintage. So... what would my rating be, 4/5. why? 1. no ones perfect, except for Retrospect of course! 2. Drinks prices and ponses, tight & arse, respectively of course. Get down and check it out, you will enjoy...
