I went first time the other month for my pal's 19th birthday.
It's hard getting in when you're 18/19 year old lads unless you take some girls with you. We aren't trouble causers it's just all lads this age have a reputation lol.

Anyway finally got in and really enjoyed it, spent an absolute firtune but I knew this was going to happen.
I would go again, but only once in a blue moon. Otherwise it's too cheesy and loses the buzz.

went 15 girls for my mums birthday brill night really cheesy but great could not go every week more like every year. full of women till about 1am then get a few men in who think they are gods gift but are just losers loved the way they perform 1 or 2 dance shows then go off and allow the audience to dance then they come back definatly recommend it top night

it was great, had a really good laugh. The door men aren't that bad, we do want to see the show and if people keep standing up we can't see. It gives you a chance to cool of from dancing anyways!

Its a decent night, the mix of people, ages and all that - but I do prefer the Birdcage on a Friday to a Saturday though. Its less busy, but better atmosphere, plus it seems that Saturday nights bring out the odd crazy hen party (complete with 12+ stone women!) who think its a good idea to try and get on stage during the show! hahaha!

Went to the Birdcage on a Hen Night on Saturday 16th Feb. There was a party of 25 of us...all mixed ages. Never again would I go as I thought the Bouncers were totally rude and abnoxious. Just lacked a bit of get up and go to the place, although they did their bit of cabaret it was still not the wow factor and Petra was very rude and snotty.

I went to the Birdcage for the 1st time Sat 16.02.2008 I had a good night but I found Petra to be very abrupt and nasty towards people and the security in the club are also very nasty and horrible towards guests and each time the cabaret came on you were not allowed to stand up or dance you had to sit down and shut up or the security were there telling you off like you were still in school. 1st and last time and would not recommed to anyone.

If theres a group of 20 of us going to The Birdcage for a friends 21st birthday. & we have all booked our tickets on the ticket line and have a queue jump ticket etc.

Will we still need to take Identification or will our tickets take us straight through?

Everyone of us is over 21 but not many of us like to take passports out with us.

Came to your club last Saturday night with 9 other girls for a friends birthday night out, got there earlish so as to get a seat managed to get bar stools with small tables which was fine until it got very crowded and then from 11 30 onwards could not see the entertainment as it was too crowded and everybody was piled in front of us, thought the dance floor was too small as the music was good and made u wanna dance, should have been designed bigger, the atmosphere was good too, everybody seemed to be having a good time and there was a good mixture of ages, all in all me and my crowd all agreed that we had a really good time and all enjoyed ourselves and would definately come again.

Dress code wasnt very strict as some have said. I went last night (fri) with 25 other women. Noticed most girls wore jeans, and the guys, jeans and t shirts. I suppose as long as youre resonably smartly dressed, not wearing trainers and are sober, then youll get in. Good night but felt the shows werent long enough, left us wanting more. Paid ?15 for entrance and seats, but wasnt offered waiter service and seats were a bit crappy to the side, so couldnt see full stage. Dance floor small and crowded, but we enjoyed all the music they played, gr8 atmosphere. DJ who met us at the entrance was lovely, very friendly, had my photo taken with him/her. Would recommend for a fun night out.

Its not what i was cracked up to be its way better, i liked the drag dj and the dance routines are the bestes part of the money you pay. I paid ?8 in advance and I thought it was dear but with entry, music and loads of cabaret and dancers it cool.

Anonymous says...

I went to the cage and had the time of my life, it was mine and my wifes joint 30th and we had over 40 people with us. We bought our tickets in advance, got seats right near the cabaret (which is the best part of the whole night) and didnt have to queue. My wife is still telling our other friends about it now and we will be going back when our baby daughter gives us a break -)

I am going in September, my sister went last month or maybe the month before with work and they had a great time so I am excited - does anyone know if there is a dress code?

Anonymous says...

We dont market ourselves as a Dance and RnB club; we are a laid back party lovng venue and we want all of our guests to come along and have a genuine good time listening to the music that they want and catchign up with friends to have a good night out. The Big Night Out is our motto and thats what we stick to. People are lovig it and that makes us really happy.

Give over. Its overated. There was no dance or RnB and it was all people dancing to chart and cheesy pop songs.

Anonymous says...

I was too hot to be honest, it made it uncomfortable. Cabaret was brilliant, I really really enjoyed it and could have watched it all night long. There are about 5 shows but they could easily double that and you would still enjoy it.

Has anyone seen the new window pictures, there is a picture of the little female dancer in feathers and she is well sexy. Miles better in the flesh though. Had a brilliant time last night. Got a hangover now though

Its best when he does that Cher number cos he looks just like her and has you laughing. The Liza number is also wicked. Add MORE shows Birdcage

The new show is good, that main guy can look like anyone, he must sit at home in a dark room all day studying the every move of Tina Turner and Cher. We recommend it.

****Message From The Birdcage*******

Yes it is true that if you book your tickets in advance that you can jump the queue and save valuable drinking time. It is also true that on occasion the girls will upgrade you from a general admission ticket at ?8 to seats at ?10 on a Friday only if they have enough availability. However they are not obliged to so its always good to make them laugh. :-)

Chloe,

We would never recommend leaving your personal belongings alone in ANY public place. We do get lots of stuff handed in so if you ring the box office on 0161 832 1700 and ask they might have it there.

I wont be going back, I left my handbag in the toilets by accident and when I went back it had been nicked. I was only gone for ten minutes.

I agree with Joanne; I dont know if they are supposed to do it but we booked 15 tickets and paid?8 each for them, we turned up at about midnight and it was ?12 on the door and we didnt queue either so NEVER just turn up.

We didnt get in just because our jeans were ripped and my mate had trainers on. We had been on a bender all day and were looking forward to it; the bouncer said we were drunk but we had only been to about 6 bars and I know we were stone cold sober. Trainers my ass.

Anonymous says...

I went for my hen party two weeks ago, I just wanted to say that f you are in two minds about going, just go because you will be surprised, its a really good night out. We had seats which is miles better so that we had somewhere to sit in between songs and when cabaret was on. It can get busy but you dont notice that much, its nice and cool so even though there was sometimes a wait at the bar I didnt mind.

I am going back soon

We go to the cage every saturday, we book seats, yeah ?15 is a lot but its worth it, we get table service from friendly staff, we love it, admittedly i would never step foot in a trendy superclub like pure or opus its not my bag, i like a good night out i like a laugh i like the cage.

I have never had a bad time at the birdcage.

Go and enjoy a night of fun without attitude

Gaynor Billington

Gaynor Billington says...

graham townsend clearly got lost on the way to birdcage and went to the wrong club. I went this weekend and it was the best night out i have ever had. i was drinking the 3.10 pints of carling that the birdcage has mentioned they dont even sell fosters and we were prompt for our both and reciever ecellent service. the table service menu is limited, which is understandable, but when we went to the bar we didnt have to que long and the staff were friendly and quick. it seemed like an special service for every customer. the shows were hillarious and really made it an individual night. ill certainly be going there again and taking everyone i know. see you all there.

Anonymous says...

I have only been to The Birdcage once, and having read these reviews we were a bit nervous about going but thought we'd give it a try. ?10 before midnight without booking made us a bit more nervous, spesh since going out normally in Warrington ?10 is majorly expensive for entry into a club - but we were not dissapointed! I have never got so much value out of ?10! The music was amazing, to me the music was what I would class as a perfect night of music, they played 70s 80s 60s 90s old skool dance, cheesy boy and girl bands, rat pack, big band type stuff, current charts, I have to say I didn't sit down once, was in there for about 5 hours, the shows (I think there were 3 or 4 on that night whilst we were there) were brilliant, not sure if they were drag or not but who cares? it was entertaining and they were very talented. There were prob a few gays in there but what club doesn't? Seriously, unless you are so far up your own arse to see that this place is just pure fun, then you will have a wikid night out in this place!

hahahahaha, I like the comments below from The Birdcage. Its true, if you turn up for dinner two hours late you aint eatin, cinema the film is over, arrive two hours late for you flight then you are going nowhere unless you pay again, arrive two hours for a date woudl you - you are such a sad singleton if you do! What about if you turned up tow hours late at the clap clinic your stuck with crabs. What a cheek
That has really cheered my day up, I have been here before and it clearly says on the voucher to be in by 10pm and as for the gays, the ratio is about 7 WOMEN to 1 MAN, I dont think I have seen a gay in there once!

Graham,

When you make a booking with The Birdcage box office you are told all of the booking conditions and asked if you agree with them One of those conditions is that you arrive at or before the specified time on the booking form. If you booked theatre tickets and arrived two hours late you wouldnt get in and certainly wouldnt get a refund. The Birdcage prides itself on trying to maintain the very best levels of customer service at all times and would always try to accomodate you if you are being consistent and fair. The shows we put on are approximately 30-40 minutes in between and have NEVER been an hour between each number. Miming songs? Our shows are about bringing choreography, acting and humour together in a fusion and entertaining the crowds and the emphasis is never on singing so I cant really comment on that apart from wondering if you were actually at our venue in the first place, as I find it amazing that you were drinking ?4 pints of fosters and not the ?3.10 pints of Carling that we have in plentiful stock. Finally, we are not a gay club, and very rarely do we have a noticeable amount fo gay people in the venue. Having said that we welcome people of all sexuality, race and orientation in to our venue as long as they fit the dress and age codes and are out to have fun. Homophobia, racism or any other form of bullying on the other hand is never welcomed and the perpetrators will be removed if any comments like the below are made in the club.

The Birdcage - unadulterated, fun and outrageously entertaining.

what a pile of rubbish. My group paid ?15 each to get in, we arrived a couple of hours late and they had given our booth away then wouldnt give us a refund. I had to pay ?4 a pint for watered down Fosters and even then I had to wait about an hour for it cos the staff are so slow. The shows are about an hour inbetween each other, and its a cheek calling them shows, 5 trannies miming songs and the worst dancing you have ever seen. Stick to clubs for normal people, there are about 7 gay guys to every 1 here. WIERD

Graham Townsend says...

To the person who states we have no booths.....Have a look on our website in the gallery section, you will see lots of nice photos of the 15 large booths at the front of the venue, booths and sets can be reserved for ?5pp on thursdays and ?15pp on Fridays and Saturdays, the manchester birdcage website has all the details you will need.

We love to read all reviews both good and bad and we do listen and react, in the past people have said its too full so we now limit capacity to 1300 - thats 200 under our legal limit of 1500, we have added new shows and now recruited Mr David Dale as our show director and leading "lady" the feedback to our new shows has been mind blowing and taken us all by suprise, we have new shows being added weekly.
People have commented that the club is expensive both on the bars and at the door, in responce we now give out ?2 off flyers to give discount on entry and our drinks are still some of the best prices in town in a major large Nightclub, for a really good value nightout we have introduced ?5 seating and a huge range of drinks from ?1.50 every thursday, should you have any comments or feedback please let us know.
We look forward to welcoming you to Manchesters Big Night Out.. The Birdcage.

Very busy, very expensive (?3.60 for a pint of diet coke), deep queues at the bars and rude staff (particularly on the doors). The dancefloor is cleared every half-hour for a mediocre show - how annoying! AVOID - go to Tiger Tiger across the road and have a much better Saturday night!

it was my friends 21st birthday and we had all planned to go in fancy dress, we rang up prior to the day and were told it would be fine to go in fancy dress. On arrival we payed 8 quid to get in a somewhat mediocre club. After the first group of people had gone inside, the next group were told that no more fancy dress would be acceptable. Therefore leaving half the group to go elswhere. This is a discrace, the door men were un proffesional and un organised all giving different reasons for turning people away. My friends birthday was ruined, i shall not be going back and niether will the 20 other friends. This club is a joke.

I went to The Birdcage last night (sat night). We queued up at 9.30 for about 20 mins, then had to pay ?6 to get in. Once we were in it looked as though the club was already at full capacity, yet they were still letting more and more people in till way past midnight. The club gets very very very busy. We could hardly move, let alone dance. They really shouldn't let that many people in there, and it seems as though they don't know what air conditioning is. This place has really changed since the first time I went in about 2 months ago. The management have got gready now, and have put the entrance price and drinks prices up. I wont be bothering to go again.
