Chinese Food in Manchester

Traditionally the best Chinese food is found in Manchester's Chinatown, a collection of chinese restaurants, shops and bakeries, and the area still provides a great chinese dish, but as Manchester has developed so has the cities lust for Chinese food. This has resulted in a number of openings around the city, ranging from the mass-market Wagamama in Spinningfields to the proposed Ithaca (John Dalton Street). However there are still two kings in Manchester, and they're both in Chinatown. The Yang Sing is still favoured by the chinese food afficianadors, and the New Emperor on George Street. Both have won awards - the former is by the far the most acclaimed - and they offer a far more traditional approach to chinese cooking.

Karims in City Centre
Indian, Chinese

A great solution for when you're dining out, and you can't decide on Chinese or Indian. Karims fuses the two, and it does it well - having eaten in, and used their delivery service, the quality is exceptional, in fact the Indian tastes almost exactly like the popular Akbars over in Castlefield. Not entirely convinved by the Naan breads though, but the rest was perfect.

Little Yang Sing in City Centre
Chinese

Lotus Bar and Dim Sum in City Centre
Chinese

Run by the team behind the Yang Sing, this upmarket Chinese 'speed restaurant' is close to Manchester's shopping district (King Street) and it provides quality Chinese food for those on the go. Jam packed at lunchtime, the quality of the food is high, with prices around ?7-?10.

Salt n Pepper in Castlefield
Indian, Chinese, Italian

A strange little gaffe in Castlefield that serves from a wide reaching menu. Inside it's a modern, somewhat square, restaurant, with reasonably attentive service, and the quality of each dish is worthy of their lower prices. The jury is still out on whether fushion restaurants like this - that cover multiple continents - will ever work, but the team at Salt n Pepper are going to give it their best shot.

Sweet Mandarin in Northern Quarter
Chinese

A modern Chinese restaurant in the Northern Quarter, Sweet Mandarin offers moderately priced food (around a tenner for a main) in contemporary surroundings. Run by a trio of sisters.

Wagamama in Spinningfields

Manchester's second Wagamama that's located in the Spinningfields financial district - an area that's now home to some of the cities top chain-restaurants. Expect a healthy selection of noodles, with mains around ?6 - ?10. Wagamma also has a take-out menu.
