Giraffe review
"We're not a chair, we're a herd" so says Giraffe. The herd already has a branch out at the Trafford Centre, but it's first city centre Manchester restaurant opened in November 2007 and it offers much of the same. Looking something like a modern Cuban refuge camp, the restaurant serves from a menu of world dishes, and a surprisingly solid collection of world wines. To cut a long story short Giraffe is similar to the nearby Ha Ha restaurant - it's supposed to be comfort foods in a relaxing environment, and it has worked rather well at their Trafford Centre branch.

The menu is on the right side of £10, with mains coming in at £8 or £9 and plenty of filling starts for less than a fiver. The Salad Bowls are particularly good value given what you get, and there's a quality breakfast/lunch menu that includes pancakes and blueberry and Giraffe's version of a full English - serviced through till 4pm.

I've lost count of the number of new restaurants in Spinningfields - this area is surely shaping up to be the chain-restaurant capital of the North West, and the addition of Giraffe is another example of faultless planning. Well worth a visit, and if you don't like the look of the place then there's plenty of choice within a few steps.

VISITED GIRAFFE AT TRAFFORD CENTRE.MAIN COURSE VERY GOOD (ROAST SALMON FOR ME, BURGER FOR PARTNER). HAD DECIDED TO NOT HAVE STARTERS AND HAVE DESSERT INSTEAD AS THEY SOUNDED GOOD ON MENU. THEY WERE NOT. YOUNG WAITING STAFF, VERY POLITE - A BIT TOO SWIFT ON REMOVING PLATES JUST AS YOU FINISH AND ALTHOUGH GLASSES WERE AT LEAST HALF FULL WITH DRINKS, KEPT ASKING IF WE WANTED MORE DRINKS. ONE MORE THING - WAITERS INSIST ON ADDRESSING PUNTERS AS 'YOU GUYS' AS IN 'ANY MORE DRINKS FOR YOU GUYS?' I ABSOLUTELY HATE THAT !!!
