Karims review
Five years ago and Manchester city centre was devoid of good Indians. The only one that was worth visiting - apart from the excellent, but run down takeaways of the Northern Quarter - was the unfortunately named Gaylord. Along came Shimla Pinks (off Deansgate) and the revolution began...Akbars opened up in Castlefield, EastzEast opened up beneath the Ibis Hotel on Portland Street, and now there's a new kid on the block.

Karims have worked out that the problem with the trio of restaurants above is their location. Akbars probably has the nicest spot on Liverpool road, but even that is a good ten minutes walk away from the heart of the city. EastzEast has the worst location for any restaurant, ever. Karims is in Spring Gardens, right in the thick of it, and the venue itself is perfect for an upmarket Indian.

If you're a city centre dweller then you can be forgiven for not having heard of Karims before. The restaurant started life out in the frozen wastelands of Middleton, but has made the move to the city centre...for obvious reasons. The result is a shiny, modern Indian that enhances the beautiful venue and delivers top notch Indian food.

Wasn't particularly fond of the one in Middleton but thought that I would give the Manchester one a try. The starters were average, completely disappointed with the mains - totally lacked flavour, thought dessert would make up for it but only half the dessert arrived - they'd ran but didn't bother telling us (yet we still had to pay the full price!) to add insult to injury a friend of mine ordered the 'kheer' and it was blatantly just ambrosia creamed rice! Needless to say will not be making another trip! Nice venue though.

Went to the new Karims on King Street, manchester at the weekend..Thought I would give it a try after visiting the one in the Middleton atleast a hundred times since it opened in 1998. Let me tell you, this site on King Street will BLOW YOUR MIND Formly the old Establishment, the coves, cornices and marble pillars take your breath away...We sat on the upper section, which gave us fantastic views the whole way down King St. We were presented the menus by a tall, dark and handsome chap who looked like he had stepped off a Hollywood fim set! This was just the start of an amazing evening...On the menu I was suprised yet pleased to see they offer chinese and asian-fusion, which was perfect as two members of our party of 8 didn't like indian. When the food came it looked like a gourmet chef had just prepared it and tasted like my mother had just made it. Fresh, not too spicy and tender. I can honestly say this is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been inKarim has got it right here! I just wondered where he was. Hope he hasn't retired..But if he has the new runner is doing a fantastic job
