Manchester's Soup Kitchen has turned out to be a huge success for owners Nicky and Yvonne Goldsmith-Rybka. The venue is packed at lunchtimes as local workers gather for well-priced soups and salads, plus a vast array of bread rolls.

The service stopped at 4pm so there was clearly scope to expand the opening hours, but they've gone one step further and launched SK.

When the clock hits five they throw up an ornate wooden barrier to block the lunchtime serving area from view and then use a bar on the side for serving.

They've thankfully extended the menus so that their famous soups are just starters. Borrowing from Pesto they've taken to serving small tapas-esque dishes, with meals coming in at around ?8 - ?13 for two people. Pasta, chilli and cheese/meat boards are also available. Wines and beers are surprisingly costly though - SK deserves a smacked bottom for charging ?4 for a bottle of beer (Wine is around ?13/bottle or ?4/glass)

Nethertheless SK is guaranteed to be full as the resurgent Northern Quarter is the destination of choice for the cities foodie and party elite.
