Vermillion review
Vermillion manchester photoA new £5million restaurant and bar, part of the Seamark Group and next door to their restaurant wholesaler. The restaurant will be "one of the most fashionable in England", serving Thai food and with two hundred covers, plus a private dining room for up to twenty four and a bar with space for a further three hundred guests.

The restaurant and bar are close to the City of Manchester stadium - the food will no doubt go down well, but can they fill a three hundred capacity bar?

Vermillion was slated to open in October but it now looks like it will be coming alive in November/December.

went last night - on approach to the restaurant we were completely oblivious as the obscure / desolate surroundings put us off a little. the tinted red windows blocked the beautiful sunshine manchester so rarely sees. the decor was good, like obsidian's pretty grown-up oriental cousin, but the extractor-fan lights above the bar was atrocious! a little pretentious if that's your thing, the place was empty and had more staff than customers. so you got great service, and the food was really on a par with your better-than-average takeaway. you wouldn't come away with any distinction impression that it does thai food as its all too.. "fusioned". having said that, the creative starter of blue crab meat with cream cheese parcel was gorgeous and our wine was free-flowing. the monkfish curry was let down by the mushy-textured fish - should've invested in fresher ones given the ambitions of the place and the dish.

sadly, the dessert was a b*stard-child of chinese bean cake ruined by a slathering of chocolate sauce and ice cream.

but at least the place looked nice. i had higher hopes.

Amazing setting, set in a industrial area and then when you walk through the door you are transportedint an amazing world that just leaves your mouth open wide in amazement of the design and to receive the fab food. Expensive but worth it every now and again. Thay called us a cab and we were collectd in a new Range Rover for £8.00, brilliant

Went last night and it was absoultely fabulous. The food was excellent without a doubt but the cocktails werent that great.

I didn't even know the place exist, it needs to be advertised. I would definitely go again which hopefully will be soon.

We felt like royalty. Excellent evening....

7 of us went to Vermillion on Easter Sunday & it was amazing I cannot recommend this place higher. From the beautiful bar area to the seating in the restaurant everything was perfect for people who love a unique & classy night out. I wish the owners the best of luck & keep up the fantastic high standards.

think Panacea and ITHACA would have a run for their money if this venue was in city centre manchester however, dont worry its not and furthermore, dont think I have ever been to a restauarant where the service levels were so bad.

My husband and i had a meal sat evening and i have to say after reading some of the reviews, i was not knowing what to expect.
The place is gorgeous and the only way to describe it would be to say- its a hidden gem The foods great, and the staff are very friendly.
Although maybe a little too attentive" but i think that was because there seemed to be a lot of management arround.
Overall we would deffinately go again and recommend to our friends, the bar upstairs is fab very relaxing the staff are great, and on the whole the price's are reasonable.

Went last tuesday at 7pm the place was dead and the staff cant speak english very well . we were told to have a drink and wait upstairs even though we said we wanted to be seated and eat straigght away and we didnt want a drink at the bar, we then waitred left by ourselves for 20 mins , we were about to walk out and a waitress said are you ready now !? i said i was ready 20 mins ago... we sat down and ordered a bottyle of overpriced pino g and starters... asked for some advice on dishes and was met with a blank expression from our authentic thai watress who couldnt really grasp someting as simple as ... i like chicken what would you suggest that is not too spicey ... bill came to £125 for 3 of us and we left feeling very dissapointed. dont get me wrong the place is amazing design wise and the food is just ok... ive had better take aways, except the lobster and the king prawn dishes were very very nice but rocket feul spiced up ! staff and service lets the restaurant down and it is in the middle of nowhere . if it was in town and the staff were a bit better trained this place would kick ass...

I went to Vermillion on Sunday with 15 others in my party. We were treated like Kings & Queens, seated in the most fantastic setting. Truly delicious food, accommodating friendly staff, helpful chef's and very reasonably priced... what more could we have wanted !
A special day, one to be remembered and we will return.

Went here for my three year anniversary with my fella. Have to say the surroundings are something special, however you do feel as though you are paying for the lamp shades rather than the food. The food was really nice, but only on a par with our local Thai takeaway (Naisa). The service on the other hand was terrible. We arrived at 8.45pm, and had to catch the waitresses' attention for a drink, which we didn't get until after nine. We ordered soup which was delicious and arrived promptly, however our next course of a starter didn't arrive till 10.30pm! And then, whilst my fella's meal was piping hot, my chicken was stone cold. We attracted the attention of the waitress who offered to reheat it I didn't want my £9 chicken reheated. A fresh one arrived, but by this point my fella's was cold! We continued our meal and the main course was very tasty, although we didn't finish eating until after midnight. All this for £130.

I have visited Vermillion twice now and have to say that on both occasions I have been extremely impressed.

The staff are so friendly from the moment you are greeted at the entrance to the ladies working behind the reception, the bar staff and the waiting staff are all exceptionally polite - really eager to please, happy to pour your wine, take your coat and serve your food.

The restaurant itself is amazing, a truly wonderful dining experience and very authentic. The bar upstairs is awesome, especially the large 'pods' filled with comfortable cushions, not to mention the free endless supply of prawn crackers!

The monkfish curry is to die for, you have to try it! I do not agree that this restaurant is 'average' or 'disappointing'. Where do you people usually eat? To me, this is an amazing restaurant and I hope it succeeds. It is in a relatively obscure location, however, I'm sure the beautiful food and excellent service will make up for that.

Hope this helps, I know everyone has different views and opinions and they are never going to please everyone but I really don't have any criticisms about this place (apart from the fact that it is a tad expensive!).

I've got to say.... very poor
Very little in terms of food quality.
Very little in terms of service... (the staff look bored with it being so quiet)
Design is pretty good but over the top
Price is very expensive
And I have to agree with the Metro review I read, the toilets are ideal for a mugging.
I didn't like to agree with what I heard so thought Id give it a go.. Sadly I must agree. Very average and much better options in the city centre.

What an absolutely beautiful place.

After reading the review in the Manchester Evening News I was NOT expecting this fabulous, opulent and classy venue. The service is exceptional, the place itself is stunning and the food is wonderful.

I have eaten at the Buddha Bar in Paris and this place surpasses it in every way.

I will be going back very soon.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening night of this place and was well impressed . the owners are really nice, the staff very frendly and the food was really, really good. the attention to detail from the design down to the cutlery is top class ! the place is mega cool and like nothing else in Manchester.. ok so its a little out of the way as in not right in manchester city centre but its well worth a visit. go and check it out, the food is great with a really good selection for everyone and a separate vegetarian selection for all you non meat and fish eaters. all the fish dishes are fab... 10/10 all round for everything.

I Think the person below; 'skilled' has no taste or class. Ive been to Vermilion and it is a really cool place, great food, best service and very trendy design (Designs by Miguel Cancio Martins for gods sake) = one of the best places in the North. I think 'skilled' is either a regular at Brannigans! or he is from a local restaurant?!??!?

well what can i say about this place ....... not much! the word thai should only be used in the context that it sells thai food and nothing else. the place looks like it came out of the 1970's i mean this place has no soul. food was so/so thats about it watse of money and bad area. there is better smaller restaurant in the NW to spend you money on

Overall....
Visited Vermilion this evening and really enjoyed it. I must say, for a saturday it was alittle quiet but I am putting that down to late christmas shopping! The location is not brilliant, and as a result you are banking on alot if you are expecting a good night out - its not asif you can walk out to another restaurant. On entering you a greated by atleast 10 staff! All in traditional Thai clothing. I must say that the english spoken is limited, so you do get an authentic experience, but if you are looking for guidence on the menu it can be a struggle. The food was excellent - we opted for the vermilion banquet - it is an assortment of dishes, and to be honest, it blew me away! beef, duck and fish are all included providing good variety.....delicious.

Negatives...
It is a little pricey, but we kinda overlooked that because we had such a good time. The music is very inappropriate as it is shared by the bar above. I was hoping for some Thai music - instead you get a light dance vibe which is weird in this type of restaurant. They served us VOSS water from iceland which is also not inkeeping with the place, and very expensive. Should have been fiji water atleast

Great place! hope it lasts and they turnover enough covers. I think once it is well known, it will have even better ambiance! Great Night Out!

we went there last Saturday and I thought that it couldn't be better anymore! The food was really delicious and no comment for the service.
My friends told me to ask one more comment that the Thai girls here is very nice in their traditional clothes(!)
We will definitely come back another time. Phew! :)

WOW! My family and I were very impressed. The atmosphere was amazing. The food was delicious. The service was impecable. A lot of effort has gone into the planning/designing of this restaurant.

I would definately recommend you try this place for your self.

Chaporaya doesn't even compare with Vermilion and i dont even think Vermilion cares about Chaporaya and they shouldn't because Vermilion is a totally whole different experience (only similarity is that the food is Thai and even then, Vermilion's food is 10 times better anyway). Theres so much going on there in terms of design, drinks and great service. i urge you to go there its amazing! At last we have a really trendy place outside London which can compare with London's finest
