5th Avenue review
5th Avenue manchester photoCheap drinks and indie music all week long! A firm favourite with the students, 5th Avenue has long been the king of ?1 drinks and the indie playlist.

The nightclub is based on Princess Street, close to the former UMIST campus and Oxford Road. They operate Monday through to Saturday, and 5th Avenue is usually pretty cheap to get in to. The earlier you arrive then the cheaper it is!

The pub across the road (The Garett) is a cheap place to get some drinks in before you hit the club.

Despite a good few refurbs over the years, word reaches us that 5th Ave is to be expanded further! More good news for the Freshers in September.

Don't listen to Gareth the playlist is always great and getting drinks spilt on you is the only bad thing. Also Gareth learn how to spell "paid".

Gareth is right about the DJ thing, they never play anything you request and the bit you have to talk to the DJ through is so high you can't see him. I had to lift my mate up. Apart from that, great drinks, good (not GREAT) music but the best thing is the fact that there's no arseholes stirring trouble.

same songs in the same order every night. Doorstaff can be a bit agressive. there are better places to go.

5th ave is one of the best nights out in town, vodka red bulls a quid who can complain!? Last time I was there my friends and I made four different requests to the DJ, and all were played!

A great night out, even if you aren't too keen on the music the atmosphere in general is tops.

Dont know why some people seem to be complaining about drinks and the door staff because I've not had a problem with em and I'm a regular. Requests have to be made early because they get loads, so if you request around midnight come back next week you may hear it!

its ok, maybe a bit smelly (literally) but what can you expect for cheap drinks in the city centre! this is the place to go for people who like indie music and dont work for a bank. :)

the people in 5th avenue are more the student types and everyone is out for a good time.

ahh 5th av, full of 18 year old "indie" kids who know every word to mr brightside and want you to know about it Obviously anyone who has any serious interest in indie music will have grown out of this place years away. The place does sell bottles for a quid but then it needs to. I love the token bit of "dance" music that gets played too; its always some crappy smack ma bitch up/born slippy/insomnia megamix! By all means go, there are much worse places in town but make sure its only once in a blue moon.

As a student, the cheap drinks are a plus. If you like a night without the fights its a friendly atmosphere. The music isnt amazing but you get at least one song a night that you'll like. Its not a place to go especially for the music, but they put on the bland stuff you can have a dance to and thats all you need after seventeen 80p bottles of booze.

The ?1 band for four five minute smokes is a con though, why cant they just give you a free stamp or something?

I agree about the smoking thing. I asked the bouncers and they had a convincing argument. They said that when they tried the stamp, they had loads of people coming outside with their mates when they don\'t even smoke. They got complaints from residents and the queue to get in took forever. I thought it was a con too, but they said that with the extra staff to look after the \"smoking area\" they didn\'t profit from the ?1 charge. You should talk to the manager, he\'s really friendly and will provide a genuine argument. I for one am convinced :)

I was 1 week in Manchester, and my first time in 5th avenue. It was really strange to me, because Iam from Germany..... you need a wristband! Oh my god..... no smoking inside.. ok.......it was strange but funny and a new experience to me... But with a lots of Fosters the night was super! Just at the best time you must go home What a s*it! peace, and I will come back, I swear x

Was in Manchester for one night and went here. Great club. Good atmosphere, cheap drink. Really studenty.
Didnt think much of the staff........ bouncers on a power trip are never good. Girl on the door also had an attitude. Would probably put me off going again.

It's good during summer when most of the students have gone home.

Dissapointed that the drinks aren't 80p a bottle anymore and some of the bouncers are mental.

Apart from that, it's a good night as long as there is a good group of you.

wednesday is still 80p a bottle!!! Monday the cheapest drinks are fosters, 10:30, you get two free drinks. Thursday bottles are ?1.20 Weekend offers are stil great: Friday - vodka redbull is a quid and saturday double vodka redbull is ?2.50. Carlsberg is ?1.50 on both nights!!!

5th ave is brilliant ... well saturday nights are anyway and monday thurs and fri wednesday is the worse the dj is a fat prick

If you make a request, sign your text with a girls name. Tacky indie, cheap booze and the lingering smell of sick; a quintessential 'student' night out. If that's your thing.

Good fun, good music, but very aggressive doorstaff. I got thrown to the floor by 3/4 big lads & dragged up the stairs last night just because I asked the security lady if she'd put my hat in the cloakroom
end result, lots of bruises, a mate with blood all down his face and stil no hat :(

well I decided to drop my pants one evening at 5th Av and they weren't too happy about that - I mean what club doesn't let you rave your pants off!? Nah I like it -decent place.

5th Ave is a top night out! Brilliant for 'skint' students like myself. Doorstaff are friendly and usually do their job with a smile on their faces. Barstaff are fast and quick to help if you have a problem. Music is ace but requests sometimes do not get played for hours. People are friendly and in my experience there's been no trouble. I'd say this is probs the best club in Manchester =)

Am a 5th Ave regular n I gotta say I reckon it's the best club around here. If you want a friendly atmosphere, where, even if the music is sometimes chessy-indie, you want a guarenteed good laugh, 5th ave is your place.

The doorstaff are insane, brutal and a bunch of thugs.
I was pushed onto the road and pinned to the floor on Saturday night by three of the bouncers while a fourth swung his hobnail boot at my head. Luckily he missed and caught my neck instead. But it could have been very serious indeed.
And one of my friends was picked up by two big bouncers and thrown forcibly into the road.
