Paradise Factory review
Paradise Factory manchester photoThe Paradise Factory / 112 - 116 Princess Street is to open on Thursday 24th January with Laurent Garnier and Mike Pickering

The Paradise Factory is in a building that once housed the infamous Factory Records - there's still a Factory engraving in the narrow entranceway. Back in the late 90s the venue was a hugely popular gay club, with a head for the more serious side of dance music. Since it's closure back in 2003 the venue returned as 'Industry', and then back to Paradise Factory for some events in 2005.

The venue has been described as 'legendary' which, for once, is a worthy title. In the gay community the venue was certainly the place to go, before the mammoth Essential club opened at the other end of the village. Some of Manchester's seminal nights started - or played - here, and it's central location meant that even the local students could venture out and see credible DJs. Even the student nights were good.

The building itself is in desperate need of some attention, although many would admit that the 'features', such as the terrible state of the toilets on the second floor, gave the club it's personality. The last rebrand of the club did little to improve the club, and the sound system was especially poor, and that's clearly going to be on the mind of the next generation of clubbers who flock to the Paradise Factory v2.

Now the venue is set to return in 2008 (24th January 2008 to be exact) and the team behind the Warehouse Project will set the ball rolling. They're promising to bring some big name DJs to Manchester, and if you've been to any of the Warehouse project events then you'll know the kind of people that come to the venue!

Surely they're going to face huge probelms with complaints about sound and noise from people leaving the club in the early hours? There's an Ibis hotel opposite, UMIST halls of residence behind that and residential apartments just down the road who will all complain no doubt.

Anonymous says...

Wow do you work for the council... Look Paradise is a licensed premises its allowed to play loud house music till the early hours, thats its job, thats what its allowed to do !! students at UMIST complaining about the noise, na they will all be in there, students dont sleep at 2 am at weekends.. only the square ones and stuff them... Also Ibis Hotel residents complaining, when was the last time you decided to stay in a hotel over the road from a night club on a main road and not expect it to be a bit noisey !? bet the traffic makes more noise than people ! Manchester is a vibrant and happening city and people like Sacha Bentley Silver Spoon Hale and Bowdon Cover Star and his not at all Ugly Ducklings go out of there way to bring us spectacular event and the best DJs and acts !

I ve just got home after the launch party tonight. it was sold out packed prob 800 people and it was nt exactly a riot of people outside... it was ok and you cant hear the music from over the road in the hotel etc... the sound system was good but not that good.. anyway WICKID night The Silver Spoon Master and his not so Ugly Ducklings have done it again !! WELL DONE ! DJS downstairs played Sunscream Perfect Motion just as I was leaving WOW !! this place ROCKS .

Went to the launch night tonight and all I can say is WELL DONE to Everyone involved with it > Paradise Factory back to life, I heard two students talking upstairs, obviously students new to Manchester going on about WOW Its really cool and its Manchesters best new club and how cool it was as theyve made it look like an old club !!! obviously had no idea about the history of the place. For serious clubbers who are in our mid 30s now we know and remember how legendary the Paradise Factory was... I DJed there with Ian Ossia in 1994 and I loved being back in there tonight ! It was like when we were at the filming of 24 Hour Party People and remembering The Hacienda...do you kids out there know about The Hac...

Anyway 10/10 LEGENDARY

I'm a resident of the apartment just down the road. I'll make sure I call the council EVERY night to complain about the unbearable noise this club creates.

Anonymous says...

To the person from the apartment round the corner what can you expect if you live in the city centre.. move to the suburbs!

Just to add to what ppl were saying re:Sankeys... the place has gone down hill how can u have a 'rave' style club with a dress code?!?!?! Was there on Sat and had a good night BUT they turned loads of ppl away at the door including one of our mates who was not dressed that scruffily. Plus the place is now full of obnoxious drunk blonde tarts and 'lads' who as far as I'm concerned push off back to Tiger Tiger and other print work venues where they would feel more at home. Sort it out Sankeys u've got real competition now.

Anonymous says...

dirty dirty beats. what a place been 3 times and it just gets better and better keep it up. rave on !!!!!

Anonymous says...

This place is owned by the same person who owns Sankeys so its going to be exactly the same ,over priced and full of chavs ,and any students that say they don't do manufactured well you might aswell be buying tickets for the spice girls,
this place makes commercial sound like a good thing. rock on Ian Brown never sell your soul

Paradise is the best club in manchester. FACT.

actually the person who runs the paradise factory is shasha and he used to own sankeys when it was a wicked venue. he then sold it and started to run the warehouse project...it was refursbished by the current owners and turned into a s*ite club

The Paradise Factory was Fantastic last saturday! Music: great the Venue: small but did the job BUT What really made it a great night for me on saturday was the people! everyone was really friendly and up for a laugh which created an amazing atmosphere! Had loads of fabulously random conversations with complete strangers who were amazing! I remember talking to one girl who is breaking the record for the smallest nightclub ever, its called Rumours anyone heard of it? It sounds hilarious!!
I'm not lucky enough to have experienced the Hacienda days, they were slightly before my time but from what i've seen of the warehouse pro and paradise i think its possible to get back a bit of that magic, but its all about your attitude, no matter where you go if you want to have a good night you will and if you want to make others around you have a good night thats possible too!!!

amy says...

Do not go if you have not unknowingly pre booked as you will not be given any explanation as the rude doorperson pushes you away from the door. No need, just explain the situation and do not try to do a bad Peter Kay " Look It Up On T'internet" ( he knows who hw is now ) to make it O.K. because you are nowhere near as funny and never will be. Maybe you could order your Chippy from Monsoons on your radio headset while another one of you goes past on a bus, just to finish the job off! There seems to be too many of you anyway!
