Urbis review
Urbis manchester photoThe stunning Urbis building, located in Cathedral Gardens in Manchester City Centre, is a strange beast. It plays host to clubbing events, art and fashion, and was the former home of 'Le Mont' - the ill-fated French restaurant.

Urbis is a multi-purpose venue that hosts exhibitions and club events. The venue aims to highlight local social issues with challenging modern art and design installations.

Urbis is located next to the Printworks and Exchange Square, and the venue has been open since 2002. It was initially controversial due to the funding that local council tax payers would have to plough in to the project, but the stunning glass building has since won over many Mancunians. In 2007 they planned to put on a summer long Beach (complete with tonnes of imported sand), but this was shelved at the last minute due to the weather.

The building has one of the first inclined elevators that travels horizontally and vertically at the same time.
